Green Impact Highly Commended Award
We are pleased to inform you that the Ravensbourne Students’ Union has been awarded Excellence – Highly Commended standard in NUS Green Impact Award 2014/15.
After achieving the Gold Standard in NUS Green Impact Award in the previous two years, the SU qualified to take part in the Green Impact Students’ Unions Excellence 2014/15. It was an opportunity for the Union to take a year’s break from the workbook and work with the Institution on a bigger picture sustainability initiative, creating transformational projects, with support and guidance from NUS. RSU’s excellence theme and award type were ‘travel’ and ‘project’ consecutively. The aim of the project was to create opportunities for staff, students and visitors to travel to and from Ravensbourne by more sustainable means of transport.
However, we had to shift our aims towards ‘get cycling’ and adopt cycling as a ‘lifestyle’ choice (cycling outside Ravensbourne) since the sustainable travel survey we conducted in December 2014 identified that almost 95 percent of Ravensbourne community already use a sustainable mode of transport to travel to and from Ravensbourne. As a part of the cycling campaign, the Union has established a Cycling Hub with cycle routes to Ravensbourne, a bike repair kit and an online group for the cyclers to interact and connect! The Cycle to Ravensbourne webpage holds all the information about cycling in the local area, free cycling proficiency training (bikeability) and safe cycling.
