Introduction

Hello students! My name is Erin Rose and I am running for the position of Student Union President. I am here to support and aid the students of Ravensbourne to be the best that they can be.

My experience and skills

I have experience in student support, in my third year I was elected student rep for my course/year. From there I went on to be elected as Chair of Student Parliament. Being the President means that I have responsibility to you. To represent your voice as a student of Ravensbourne.

If Elected I would aim to:

Objective 1: To build up Ravensbourne’s community of students and professionals. This is something that I’ve been passionate about since joining Ravensbourne. I aim to work with all courses to bring us all together. By organising social events that are accessible to all years and courses.

Objective 2: Societies are a great way for students of all years and courses to meet each other and engage with one another about similar interests and areas of work, societies can also aid students in making new friends and establishing connections that will last well after graduation. The societies that I would like to create are:

  • Writers group: a society set up for anyone that’s interested in script writing, where students can bring their ideas and any prewritten scripts to the group for feedback, advice and support.
  • The Poker society: the student life is all about having fun! With this society anyone can join, and we’ll holding bi-weekly poker games and hold a leader board, at the end of the year the top players will take part in a final game to win the jackpot.
  • The Fitness Collective: keeping fit and healthy is a key aspect of student life, however not everyone has the time or money to go to gyms. The fitness collective will aim to encourage students to try different sports on a monthly basis. One month could be Zumba (1-hour sessions a week) the next month could be martial arts, the next yoga.

Objective 3: Industry engagement. I’d like to introduce a number of events that will be run in house starting with, Ravensbourne’s own film festival. A film festival set up and presented by the SU, the aim is to bring in industry professionals (e.g. Cinematographers, editors, directors, producers etc.) to judge the films submitted to the festival. Afterwards I’d arrange networking drinks with the judges and the students, this festival would be open to all years. Let’s smash the stigma that surrounds student films. I’d also like to set up similar events/competitions for other courses as well, like a fashion competition for designers, design competitions for the graphic designers and so on.

Closing statement

We are the future of the creative industries, so let’s work together to make Ravensbourne the best possible start for ourselves and all future students. Thank you.
