All about After Eid Celebration

Elli Weir

To kick start our year of celebrating our culturally diverse community at Ravensbourne the RSU put together an After Eid Celebration on Tuesday 7th October a couple of days after Eid itself. Eid-ul-Adha is all about sacrificing one’s own wealth for the wellbeing of others. This was celebrated by the Muslims in many parts of the world. People also share homemade food with family and friends, and we brought a whole mass of traditional Indian food for lunch time on Tuesday! With a donation, no matter how big or small, to Children In Need, you could feast on free food from samosas to sickly sweet but immensely popular Jalebi. All were homemade or locally sourced! We were lucky enough to receive a really generous donations of some less traditional foods such as KitKats, Quavers and mini-muffins which were much appreciated! Luckily the SU members didn’t scoff all the treats because the turn out and interest in the event was great and we raised a nice amount of money to start the ball rolling on our Children In Need activities. Was great to see so many students taking an interest in other cultures because before this event it wasn’t something the SU Team knew much about either! Our culturally diverse celebratory calendar is going to be huge amounts of fun this year, if you have any suggestions for different events and holidays we could celebrate let us know!
