It may be best to start this with a small introduction of myself. It's easy to put your name on a system, but why vote for me to be the president of your union? I came across a TED Talk, which addresses the most extensive study ever recorded about what makes people happy. In summary, it wasn't about money or fame that some people strived for; that often made them sadder when they didn't achieve it. The people that were happiest in this study were the ones that had built relationships with people they could trust: The ones that unionised to create their circle of happiness. I hope to sustain this sense of community for those who have found it at Ravensbourne and help those who haven't found it, to find it.
During my time in the role, I will target three areas of fundamental university life:
Social
As the leader of the Ravensbourne football team in 2018 and 2019, I know the struggles of creating and sustaining a society first-hand and the importance of building a circle around you to support you through your university life. I aim to support and encourage any ideas for new communities which are suggested by students.
Institutional
During my campaign, many people have told me of their annoyance with not having a solid partnership between their tutors and themselves. I aim to bridge this gap between teacher and student and will work to interconnect each course, as every creative has something relative to say, even if a course may not be their speciality.
Educational
I will ensure that all notes of feedback from student rep meetings are attended to. As part of this campaign, it's of the utmost importance, to me, that everybody feels like they have spent their money well during their time on the course. If this isn't the case, I vow to make this fundamental change immediately.
I have always felt connected with everybody in the university. I feel connected to the creative mindsets of every person who populated the institution, and I can't get enough of the energy that buzzes in the building. I believe I will be the recognisable face that Student Union requires, simply because I want to be a part of that energy. I hope to provide my skills as a sympathetic individual by considering the struggles of every student and alleviating those pressures with creative ideas that match their mindsets.
