Maximise the resources available to us so as students we can get ahead in the industry

I am focusing my manifesto for election of Student Union President around collaboration. Over the years that I have been at Ravensbourne University I have had the opportunity to see the need and potential for better collaboration between 4 stakeholders (Us the students, The University, Industry and The Environment we work and live in). For me collaboration is about how we can maximise the resources available to us so as students we can get ahead in the industry and ultimately leading to all the students continuing to show why Ravensbourne University is the best in the industry.

1. University
a) In order for us to create the best possible work we rely heavily on the kit store to get access to the best equipment, unfortunately this resource is now increasingly showing its age and in some cases students feel it is not meeting demand / expectations.
b) Societies are a great way to get more from your time at the university and to develop us as individuals but they are not getting the attention they deserve and are increasingly being underfunded.
c) In recent years cuts have been made to the final major project funding that was provided by the SU and so now we students have to try and personally fund the entire project.

2. Industry
Over our time at the university more needs to be done to engage us with the industry we are on our pathways to be a part of. In order for us to achieve the best results we can it is vital we are involved in the wider industry from an early age when studying.

3. Students
a) Socialising with other students is vital to networking and making friends whilst being in a very new environment to home. We are blessed to be in such a phenomenal location but this means we lack safe and affordable places to socialise locally.
b) Students need to be more involved in the decision making process of events to ensure that we meet the expectations and requirements of our diverse student population.

4. Environment
a) Its time to take action and ban single use plastic to create a more sustainable university, we will then aim to incentivise students further (by working in collaboration with the Cafe team) to bring in their own cups and containers for food thus reducing the waste of the university.
b) In order to make it easier for students to stay hydrated by have minimal waste I am pledging to look further into the reason why University water bottles where discontinued and where possible introduce them back.
