Working with the University to create real change. No false promises.

As your current Vice-President of Design, I believe my tenure not only justifies my running for Presidency but also makes me the best candidate for the role. Over the past 8 months I have built relationships with staff and students in order to understand fully what it is that Ravensbourne students need, while also considering what is possible institutionally. I am not running to make false promises that simply aren’t possible. Your President needs to be able to know how the University runs academically before they can understand what changes students can benefit from, and I believe from my experience I am the only candidate with this knowledge.

Main policies

  • Mental Health
  • 4/11 Scheme
  • Space Improvements
  • Student Exhibition Opportunities
  • Society/Community Days

Welfare

Welfare is an issue at Ravensbourne that needs to be more of a focus for our SU team. I would like to begin with some changes at Ravensbourne University, and throughout my run learn & build upon other welfare factors.

Mental Health

  • As creatives a lot of our work can be very stressful and have an impact on our mental health. I will ensure there is an improvement on student-to-student support beginning with improving student rep engagement.
  • Continue to support our Student services team to ensure students receive the best staffing support possible at our University.

4/11

4/11 has been set up by myself in the past academic year, it has offered: exhibition opportunities, socials, extra-curricular support and more. Next year it will be developed to be the social arm of the RSU. I will schedule in more regular talks, networking events, casual nights & exhibitions regularly between the hours of 4-11pm. To help people connect, relax, be inspired & more.

Community/Enterprise

Community and opportunity is something that is vital to a positive and productive student experience. Below are some ways I believe I can improve on this aspect with your support.

Space Improvements

While it is understood the situation with the quiet space/prayer room currently is not ideal, this is something that is being developed alongside general spacing improvements. As a result, we are currently planning for how this will work. I have brought the issue to the University’s space board and we now have a team of staff discussing the matter.

Student Exhibition Opportunities

Since the beginning of the academic year I have worked on creating an exhibition scheme independently run by our Students’ Union, to provide students with opportunities to have complete creative control over their exhibited work as well as exhibition experience. This has so far been successful and will continue to run more frequently into next year.

Society/Community days

A sense of community is a factor commonly referenced to be improved by the student body at Ravensbourne. Other Universities use regular scheduled days as a way to ensure student engagement is consistent and easily accessible. I will look to make all society and SU event planning work cohesively to improve the accessibility and quality of student social life at Ravensbourne.
