Supporting Student Voice

My name is Dudley and I’m running for the role of Vice President of Media. I am currently a film student taking up the role of Director of Photography, I have also worked with the current student union team for the past year assisting with various different events with the most recent one being the student exhibition, I would like to act as a louder voice for students who aren’t heard, and I would also like to bring more attention to the services Ravensbourne offer students outside of just their chosen subject of study. In my three years at Ravensbourne I have made amazing connections with students as well as industry links, so I would like to highlight these opportunities to other students who may not be aware or not sure how whilst also focusing on the quality of their experience at Ravensbourne.

I aim to bring attention to the services currently available to guide students who are trying to seek career paths post-graduation as well as students who wish to seek work experience whilst they are currently studying by directing them to our industry department with CV help, networking etc. I plan to create a more accessible bridge for students

along with industry help.

I would like to continue working on the student exhibition scheme which started earlier this year because not only does it provide added exposure to student work from external (and internal) sources, but it also builds their confidence as they prepare for working life.

In addition to this, I believe that during your course of study a student’s wellbeing should be heavily prioritised, so I would also like to bring more light to student services and help those with concerns regarding mental health, disability & learning difficulty support, financial help as well as counselling. This goes in-line with my current endeavours as in the process of training to be welfare ambassador at the Scape accommodation for students in which I act as the bridge of communication for those who need help and are unsure of which direction to go; I would like to continue this and serve the same role at the university itself.

Finally, by being the student voice I would address any concerns they have regarding their course, facilities etc.and to enable this I will ensure that I keep students well informed and updated because in the past, students feltleft out of the loop in knowing whether or not action is actively being taken; I will make sure I don’t leave students voices left feeling neglected and will help to create a better experience for their time at Ravensbourne.
