President

Bryony Acketts

Proposer: Eleanor Greenleaf

Seconder: Kamal Shaddad

I will dedicate my time to make sure work is SEEN and voices are HEARD; equally and effectively.

I will develop:

  • A PHYSICAL space; where you can display work, advertisements and social notifications.
  • FOR students, BY students, there for all to see.
  • A simple media hub where you can display work and request help.
  • A time for YOU to share your opinions and concerns personally with ALL SU members weekly.
  • Interactions with other Universities through societies, projects and SU BAR visits!
  • A team to publish a weekly NEWSLETTER.

I want YOU to get as much as you can out of Ravensbourne…

  • WORK hard, PLAY hard, we’ll offer students the chance to exchange skills and party afterwards.
  • I will establish a mentor scheme run by alumni.

So Vote Bryony!

I’m On it…like SONIC…like GROMIT…like a car BONNET…

And I’m there for YOU.

Richard Lartey

Proposer: Charlotte Rollinson

Seconder: Sam Davis

The most important thing that RSU needs this year is consistency. We need a strong president who can communicate effectively with both students and senior management to continue on with the fantastic work Harri and his team have put in this year.

Consistency is the key to success, so pick a candidate who already knows the ropes of running this challenging students’ union.

If you #VoteLartey I promise the following:

  • I plan to put together a full project proposal for the roof
  • Continue the fight for Ravensbourne’s Halls of Residence
  • Improve upon the discounts available on the peninsula
  • Produce a new social media policy which encourages communication between the union and students
  • Hold more competitions like the fantastic student run 48 hour film challenge to enrich education
  • Expand the RSU shop to provide course materials
  • Establish an online hub of student job opportunities which are available throughout the year.

VP: Education & Academic Affairs

Claire Cook

Proposer: Danny Draper

Seconder: Emily Jane Curtin

Hi my name is Claire Cook,

I am going for the role of Vice president Education & Academic Affairs, I feel that in this role I could help everyone across the university and reach out to everyone.

I’m a very open person and never shy to say my true opinion, I would be happy for anyone to come and talk to me any time any day.

I myself am dyslexic and I know what it is like to struggle, also keeping problems to myself but I want to make people more aware and not to be afraid to speak up and this goes for outside the university as well.

Although I am a first year I have seen a lot, at the start of the year it was very busy then it got less and less busy, this is the first aspect I would try and change. I think although some lectures may not correspond with a specific course doesn’t mean you cannot be interested.

Kyron Goode

Proposer: Jay Shukla

Seconder: Ben Northfield

I’m Kyron Goode, I’m a first year Broadcast Operations student, though I’ve been at Ravensbourne for 2 years. I’ve been elected Course Representative 2 years in a row, and have been active in speaking on behalf of the students, for the students at various Student Lliason Committees and Student parliaments.

I think we can all agree it is now more important than ever that we ensure students are satisfied with the education they are getting, especially with new students paying the extortionate amount of £9000 a year.

We need to ensure student satisfaction is paramount, and each student feels they are getting what they deserve from their course. Ravensbourne has a world class reputation and to maintain that we must maintain student satisfaction.

If you vote for me, I will fight my hardest to ensure that lectures and facilities at Ravensbourne continues to be of a world class standard.

Rory O’Connor

Proposer: Stephen Wignell

Seconder: Heather Myers

I am serious about improving your Ravensbourne Student Experience.

I will ensure all courses have more tutor contact time.

With greater use of our available resources in lectures.

Fuller timetables with more lectures.

Progress reviews to be scheduled outside of potential lecture time.

More sessions and classes from Industry professionals.

I aim that you, as students get excellent value for money.

Ensure that your course will teach to the original specification (or equivalent, if changing keeping up with media/technology change).

With fees on the rise from 2012, this shows why we need to review what each

course is offering and the value for money, and time, of Ravensbournes teaching/ Education.

Ravenbourne cannot afford to rest on its laurels and live on an old reputation forever. We need to make sure current and future students are taught well to maintain this excellent reputation. The future of Ravensbourne depends on it!

VP: Union Development & Democracy

Andy Morgan

Proposer: Natasha Hayes

Seconder: Dan McNamara

I passionately believe that a strong and active SU is the key to improving the student experience at Ravensbourne.

We might be small, but that does not mean our voice as students should be any quieter than those of students at institutions with many thousands

I will:

  • forge links with unions at other small specialist institutions across the country, sharing knowledge and experience to make us stronger.
  • develop Union Parliament to create a force for change, one which holds management and the Union Executive to account.
  • put a member of RSU Exec in every single SLC meeting to ensure that pledges made during them are honoured.
  • ensure that RSU have the right to vote on issues affecting FE students at NUS National Conference and I will ensure an FE student rep is able to attend that conference.
  • liaise with City University SU, their university validates our degrees, we need regular dialogue with their Union Officers.

VP: Welfare

Dayo Balogun

Proposer: Max Green

Seconder: Sherida Kuffour

Me…Bits & bobs

A charming Postproduction Student!

I’m British-European-African Born-American Thinking (Yes we can).

I am the student-rep of my course, and most of you may already know me, as I am part of IT Support on Level 5. Apart from solving technical issues I have lots of things to say, hundreds of questions to ask… and plenty of suggestions for improvements.

Student Welfare…

If I’m voted in as VP Welfare I plan to unleash the power of student collaboration to address issues such as:

  • Ensuring fair allocation of teaching resources across all pathways.
  • Pushing for more PAID work placements.
  • Encouraging better communication between course leaders and Students.
  • Promotion of Safe Sex, Healthy living and Drink and Drug awareness etc.
  • Providing greater support for mature & International students.
  • Connecting the university and the community through gigs, events, charities, volunteering locally and abroad, involvement with local businesses and fundraising.

Lily Ly

Proposer: Ben Brannan

Seconder: Kashman Harris

I want to commit to being a Welfare Officer but I’d also like to change and improve this role. Apart from dealing with financial and health issues, there are campaigns and associations which needs to be fully embraced and I believe I can do that.

What I would love to see happen is students benefitting from my role, whether to make sure they’re safe on a night out or wanting support and advice. There is a need to create a link between students and Welfare and I hope setting up my Confidential Surgery would enable this to happen.

I want every single student’s problems and questions in Ravensbourne to be heard, and there are many ways for this to be done, I just need that opportunity to make it happen. This will be liberating, and improve to become a major role, all for the sole purpose of the students.

Entertainments Officer

Glyn Davidson

Proposer: Tracey Murray

Seconder: Hollie Scarsbrook

Like many of you, I came to university for the degree but also for the experience. I believe the

memories we make here should be just as important as the education received and that’s why if elected Entertainment Officer, I promise to try my hardest to improve your nights out.

I think it is vital for the Entertainments Officer to work closely with other students to find out what they want from their events.

Moving to a new city can be daunting so I will work towards dedicating a page on the RSU website, which will have lots of information on the nightlife in central London updated weekly.

Working hard comes second nature to me and I always apply maximum enthusiasm to every task

that I do. Uniting the student body through awesome, CHEAP events will be my top priority but to do this I need your vote.

Kimberley Enson

Proposer: Anthony Espeute

Seconder: Ashley Thompson

Hey I’m Kimberley Enson, I’m in my second year studying Broadcast Operations. I WILL make Ravensbourne as exciting as possible by producing the highest calibre of events. My goal is to ensure that events are fun and well structured. I have done many events ranging from Club nights in the o2, including an after party for hip hop sensation J Cole. As well as nights in the prestige night clubs in West End!

I currently produce an online internet entertainment series alongside industry professionals including MTV base presenter/comedian Kat Boyce and many artists.

My database can offer the best entertaining nights including comedy showcases, celebrity after parties, wild themed events, weekenders, networking game nights, celebrity concerts all at student rates. Including a few surprises up my sleeve

The price of greatness is responsibility. I WILL make it happen! Vote for me and together we WILL make a difference.

I have a lot planned for next year! I want more student participation so

you guys get the kind of events YOU want!

What I can bring and have planned:

  • I have experience.

I’m in my 2nd year now and go out on behalf

of my course! I promote for a students’ events company and can give you special deals on weekly student clubnights!

  • Take Me Out.

I’m planning on bringing this as freshers’ event to get students to know each other!

  • Cheap prices!

I plan on organising range of different affordable events. I also plan on having

different events in places such as Shoreditch and Central!

  • I will listen to you!

My main goal is to give YOU what YOU want! I plan to talk to you to see what

kind of things you want.

Let’s put the “Rave” back into Ravensbourne!

Ben Northfield

Proposer: Kyron Goode

Seconder: Steve Shaw

Vote for me and I will change the way events have ever been done before at Ravenbourne.

I have great contacts with major record labels with artists like Chase and Status, Skrillex, Flux Pavilion and Doctor P to name but a few. I also have contacts with many great venues across London.

I want all courses to integrate and come out to more events. I have plans for freshers which will ensure this happens. I’m sick and tired of the same old student socials.

“Being next to the O2″ has worn off for me and I want to push more of our socials into central London.

I will strive to get the best drink prices for students. I will ensure that students will feel safe and not intimidated by any security/club staff members at RSU events. For loads more information go to bennorthfield.com or come speak to me!

Student Activities Officer

Kamal Shaddad

Proposer: Kat Mace

Seconder: Ben Alex Nathan

As Student Activities Officer, I will get societies more involved with university life. By helping to introduce a budgeting system and monitoring it, I hope to give societies the ability to afford their own outings and gigs.

On a regular basis I hope to work together with the Entertainments Officer to organise any society related event. On top of all that, I aim to constantly be in contact with the heads of societies to offer support when needed, and possibly create links between different societies.

At the end of the day, I’m all about bringing everyone together and making our love for debate, drama, music, religon, sports and videogames more accesible to the students of the university. In doing so I hope that it will help contribute into making Ravensbourne a more enjoyable experience.

So C’mon, Vote For The Fro!

Sustainability & Ethics Officer

Rumil Shah

Proposer: Alan Geeson

Seconder: Adam Solodujin

This year, I headed up Eco Society and worked closely with the RSU sustainability officer to gain the Silver Green Impact Award for Ravensbourne. Next year, I’m going for the Gold Award status will give Ravensbourne students an edge in our future careers, and my experience from this year means I’m already preparing to do so.

I hope that I can work with students and management to save energy and money, which can be reinvested in student life here. As the creative industries get greener by the day, I’m certain a Gold status will give Ravensbourne students an edge in our future careers, and a selling point to be proud of.

It’s not all serious though, I hope to be working closely with the Entertainment Officer and organising some great events such as a recycled night out, go green week and an eco brewery tour.
