First post and things.

This is my first blog post as VP of Education & Academic Affairs at Ravensbourne, and i’d like to firstly just thank everyone who was involved in my campaign, turned up and voted for me, and supported me throughout. I couldnt have done this without your support.

Alongside the standard RSU meetings I’ve attended with the rest of the team, earlier last month I attended the final Academic Board meeting at Ravensbourne with Andy Morgan and Bryony Acketts (Your VP for Union Development and Democracy and of course, your SU president, respectively). A lot of subjects were covered, including the revisions of the Broadcast Operations & Production and Content Development & Production courses. I cannot divulge much information but there was nothing that I felt was of concern, and students will be involved in the development over the next year.

Another subject covered was Moodle. As we all know, Moodle can be awkward and confusing to use. But there’s no use complaining if we aren’t at least trying. It seems that despite complaints, when Moodle training was actually organised, there was little to no turn out. It’s only fair that we’re a little more pro-active in TRYING to learn how to use it if we’re going to bring up problems with it. But needless to say, Moodle is still awkward and hopefully we’ll sort something out.

The meeting also covered the change in Ravensbournes validation partner, and there’s no news to report as of yet but I’ll ensure that you’re all kept up to date with the issue.

Aside from that meeting, I’ve began writing up a sort of ‘revision’ of the Course Reps process, because as it stands it’s not as effective as it could be. Our plans would gift the course reps more responsibility and would make them more pro-active in the decision making, encouraging them to work towards solutions with each other, We will also ensure the election process is the same across the board, and that Reps take their position seriously.

Feel free to email me with any questions or issues you may be facing at [email protected], mail me on FB if we’re friends on there, or follow me on my incredibly underused twitter account @ravesu_edu .

Peace out

Kyron Goode
Vice President for Education & Academic Affairs.
