Eco Joyfulness

It’s been a busy old first month in Office for all of us! I’ve really learnt the ways of the SU and feel we’ll all be working very closely this year.

Ok, soppy moment over… I went to watch ‘The Lorax’ the other day. What an inspirational film… a feature based on saving trees, with a serious underlying truth. I think we should fully explore the idea of the Lorax as an Eco Mascot at Rave? Or perhaps I should just grow a moustache and bleach my hair strawberry blonde?

On a serious note, as the creative industries have more and not green legislations forced upon them, now really is the time to embrace green thinking. I want to help everyone get ahead of the game and increase their employability. Even if you don’t have green fingers, sustainability is all about saving money, so get involved!

So far this year, I’ve already set the ball rolling with my Fairtrade University campaign. I’ve written a policy, that’s been given management approval, and am in talks with the cafe about how we can achieve this status.

August looks like it will involve a lot of planning for freshers week and freshers fair in October (exciting much?!). As the criteria for Gold Green Impact Award are also set to be released, I hope to set a solid plan for making the necessary changes so that we can achieve this great award! There’s also plans to take part in a scheme, where Rave students will be able to get huge discounts around the peninsula, but more on that next month.

This is the year I want student engagement with green thinking to really kick off. If you’d like to get involved, please follow me on twitter; @RaveSU_Sustain, like the Ravensbourne Eco Society; http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ravensbourne-Eco-Society/109257059184026, or email me your thoughts and ideas; [email protected].
